Barbara Setzer

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Jane Setzer (nee Hewlett), who died peacefully on July 19, 2026, in Needville, Texas.

She was born in Herrin, Illinois on November 25, 1934, to parents Mary and Howard Hewlett. Barbara remained in Herrin until graduating from Herrin High School in 1952, after which she moved to the Chicago area where she would raise her three children.

Barbara was a strong, can-do person who never backed down from a challenge. She was a valued employee at Outboard Marine Corporation in Waukegan, Illinois until her retirement in 1991.

Barbara’s strong commitment to her family led her to move to Sugar Land, Texas in 1991, to be closer to her two daughters and to help with her grandchildren. Her family was the center and joy of her life, but she also enjoyed reading, movies, and sports. She will be fondly remembered as being a vocal and ardent fan at her grandchildren’s various sporting events.

Barbara is survived by her children Tracey (Brian) Zale, Rockney (Jill) Hudson, Sr., and Melanie (Tim) York; grandchildren Whitney (Joe) Weinstein, Dana (Robby) Bulian, Jordan (Laura) Zale, Allison (James) Howell, and Rockney Hudson, Jr.; great-grandchildren Dalton Bulian, Morrison Weinstein, Jordi Zale, Penelope Weinstein, Emerson Zale, and Charlotte Howell; and nieces and nephew Bambi Ponzi, Tammy Ayers, Carri Link, and Charles Miller.

She was preceded in death by her sister Anita Miller and her grandson Nolan Zale.

We honor Barbara’s long life and mourn her loss, but she will live on in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, the chapel of E.P. Compean Funeral Directors, 1223 6th Street, Rosenberg, Texas 77471 beginning at 10:00am and a service at 10:30am.
