Carl Bruce Gilbert

d. April 24, 2018

Carl Bruce Gilbert, 62, of Rosenberg, was born March 7, 1956, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 21, 2018. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018, from 5pm to 7:30pm at New Hope Fellowship Church, 1130 7th St., Rosenberg, Texas.  Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018, at 10:00am at Faith United Methodist Church, 4600 FM 359, Richmond, Texas.  Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery located 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Vesta Gilbert. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Teresa Gilbert; son, Ryan Gilbert and wife Kelsey; daughters, Nicole McMahon and husband Micah; Lexus Gilbert and Daisy Gilbert; grandchildren, Kaden McMahon, Addison McMahon, Baily Gilbert and Kennedy Mayberry; brothers, Kerry Gilbert and wife Joy; Mark Gilbert and wife Debbie; sister, Carol Hiles; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and many other loved ones.  Bruce was a man of many titles, but the one he cherished the most was the title, Papa.  To say that Bruce was a family man would be an understatement.  He loved and devoted himself to his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren.  If you had spent any length of time with Bruce, it probably included stories about the grandchildren, and possibly even a phone call so he could hear them.   After all, it might have been an hour or more since he had talked to them last. Besides his own children, Bruce and his wife Teresa fostered children for over 20 years. Loving and caring for his family was his whole world.

God gave some to be Pastors, and Bruce wore this title as a reflection of who God had created him to be.  He pastored New Hope Fellowship Church in Rosenberg for over 25 years.  He loved, worked for, prayed for, cried for, rejoiced over, counseled, and celebrated with every person who ever called New Hope home.  He was pastor to the people God lead to the church as well as a mentor/pastor to many other pastors.   Being a Pastor was the fulfillment of God’s purpose for him.

Chaplain was another title Bruce enjoyed and cherished.  He served as Chaplain to the Rosenberg Police Department for 12 years, and he absolutely loved the job.  He enjoyed going on ride-alongs with the men and women of the RPD.  He was honored to be able to counsel them, pray for them constantly, and do whatever he could to support the men and women in blue.

Teacher was also a title he loved.  With over 20 years in the classroom, Bruce touched and changed many lives.  He poured his life into his students and did everything he could to not only teach them about math and but life as well.

Every life he touched and impacted through these many titles will miss him greatly. The impact he had on those that knew him will be eternal.
