Jerry Haymes of Richmond, Texas, passed away on October 10, 2026, surrounded by family.
A man of many titles — golfer, poker player, and whiskey collector, to name a few — his most cherished were husband, dad, grandfather, and friend. If you knew Jerry, chances are he made you laugh, whether with a story from his past or his unmistakable quick wit.
The youngest and rowdiest of three, Jerry was born on August 8, 1951, to Peggy and Bob Haymes. He was a graduate of Irving High School and the New Mexico Military Institute. While in high school, he met his wife, Cathy (known to him simply as “Red”), when he was just 17. They married on April 15, 1972, beginning a life together that would span more than five decades.
Jerry began his career at his family-owned business, Morton Foods, kicking off a long career in the grocery industry. He went on to manage warehouses for companies including Skaggs, Albertsons, and Grocers Supply, with jobs taking him from Dallas to Ponca City, Oklahoma, and eventually to Houston. Along the way, he made lifelong friends and discovered a love of golf in Oklahoma…probably because there wasn't much else to do.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Peggy Haymes, and his sister, Brenda Groff.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Haymes of Richmond; his brother, Bobby Haymes, and wife, Ginger of Colbert, OK and brother-in-law Tim Goza; his daughters, Jennifer Angey and husband, John of Richmond, and Melodi Doran and husband, Thomas of Grapevine; granddaughters Tori Fleharty and fiancé Luke Johanson, and Payton Angey; grandsons Tyler Fleharty, Carson, Austin, and Ryder Doran, and JJ and Anthony Angey; and great-granddaughter Wyatt Johanson.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held from 2pm to 5pm on Friday, November 27, at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's honor to the American Lung Association or to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
