James Louis “Jay” Hamilton, Jr., 67, of Huntsville, Texas, passed away on October 23, 2026.
Born on January 26, 1959, in Nashville, Tennessee, to James Sr. and Mary Gupton Hamilton, Jay grew up in Tennessee and was a proud graduate of the Antioch High School Class of 1977.
Following high school, Jay answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably, carrying the discipline, pride, and brotherhood of the Marines with him throughout his life.
After his time in the military, he brought that same strong work ethic to his civilian career, successfully owning and operating his own carpentry business. When he was not working, Jay was an avid fisherman who found his greatest peace out on the water. Whether he was casting a line from the beach, leaning on a pier, or braving the open ocean swell in the Gulf, he was truly in his element with a fishing rod in his hand.
Above all, Jay was a man who deeply loved his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and will be profoundly missed by his daughter, Cherisse Guerrero, and his son-in-law, Billy Guerrero III; his cherished granddaughters, Savannah Guerrero and Selene; his brother, David; his sister, Janet; his brothers-in-law, Ken Miller and Mehran Baloochestani; his nephew, Ali Jon; and his niece, Natalie.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James Sr. and Mary Gupton Hamilton.
Services to honor and celebrate Jay’s life will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026.
Following the morning services, a committal ceremony with full military honors will take place at 2:15 PM at the Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
