Mical Neil Slater entered into rest on August 24, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on March 19, 1945, in Albany, Oregon, Mical lived a full and meaningful life grounded in family, hard work, and a lifelong passion for geology.

Mical devoted many years to the field of geology, a career that reflected his curiosity, dedication, and deep appreciation for the natural world. His knowledge, experience, and steadfast work ethic remain an enduring part of his legacy.

Above all, Mical was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Gayla Slater; his children, Aaron Slater and his wife, Danielle; Mical Slater and his wife, Cristie; Ty Slater and his wife, Melina; and Tara Fiore and her husband, Steven; his stepchildren, Cindy, Glen, and Brian; and his sibling, Robert Vernon Slater and his wife, Pamela.

Mical was the proud grandfather of fifteen grandchildren and was blessed with one great-grandchild, each of whom brought tremendous joy to his life.

Mical was preceded in death by his mother, Mary May Slater; his father, William Neil Slater; and his brother, Lewis William Slater.

Mical will be remembered for the life he built, the wisdom he shared, and, above all, his deep love for his family. His memory will live on through Gayla, his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchild, sibling, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, the countless memories, lessons, and moments shared with Mical will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 10:00 AM–11:30 AM in the chapel of E.P. Compean Funeral Directors, 1223 Sixth Street, Rosenberg, Texas 77471 with a religious service beginning at 10:30 AM.

Interment to follow immediately at Morton Cemetery in Richmond, Texas.
