Ronald Ray Smith, 80, of Richmond, TX, entered into eternal peace on January 21, 2021 at Kindred Hospital in Sugar Land, TX.

Ron was born on March 29, 1940, son of the late, Clay Smith and Laura Shaver. He attended South Houston High School and served in the Navy from 1957 to 1961. He obtained his lifetime FCC General Class license early in his career along with a permanent Technicians License. He was a certified LMR Master Engineer through iNARTE. Ron married the love of his life in 1964 and together they owned several small businesses, including Communications & Emergency (C&E) Products from 1981 until 2014. They worked beside each other for more than 40 years. During that time, he also pursued the ministry. He graduated the ministry certificate program through Baylor University’s Truett Seminary School in 2011. He worked into retirement for CTS, Bearcom, and Voceon, where he loved chatting and selling communications equipment.

Ron served as a Sunday school teacher, Wednesday night prayer meeting leader, and deacon at First Baptist Church in Richmond for many years. He also sang solos, was a member of the choir, and the bass of the church quartet group. He served the church in many ways, including serving and directing the personnel committee and directing the audio-visual needs of the church. He was a kind and thoughtful man that loved serving the Lord.

Ron is preceded in death by his father, Clay Smith; mother, Laura Shaver; brother, Roy Smith; and grandson Corrie Flowers.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 56 years Ruth Elaine Smith and their children Joshua Smith and Victoria Hollas (Randy); daughters, Katrina Clark (Ian) and Claudette Smith; son, Andrew Smith; brothers, James Smith (Inga) and Tim Shaver (Sandy); sister, Dale DePrima (Ellis); 11 grandchildren, Jessica Hickman (Charles), Lorraine Logsdon (Micah), Landon Smith, Aubrey, Brady, and Blake Hollas, Kevin, Christopher, Joseph, Levi, and Frances-Rose Clark; and 3 great grandchildren, Nicklaus Umholtz, Lillian Hickman, and Clementine Logsdon, along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Humaira Chaudhary, MD and Kindred Hospital Sugar Land for their support in his final days.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Richmond, 502 S 5th St., Richmond, TX 77469 on Friday, January 29, 2021, at 11am with family welcoming loved ones at 10am. Masks and social distancing are required. Due to Covid-19 protocols, an RSVP would be welcome if you are attending the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to First Baptist Church in Richmond in honor of Ron’s memory.
